For a second I thought that might be a poker related post.
As per the carbon offsetting, I only glanced at the article, but one of things that I am bothered by is obsolete electronics and fashion furniture.
Furniture used to be built to last, as did electronics, which kept them out of landfills. Way too many ins-and-outs to this for a comment but it is something to consider. That IKEA couch and that useless video card stay around a lot longer than than they were ever useful.
My contribution to the environment is never throwing anything away….
